Hi and welcome to the new Gigdoggy blog. As I briefly explained in my wordpress.com farewell post, we decided to move the blog for practical reasons – you must admit it looks much less white then our previous blog, and it gives our dog a whole new persona.

In the music 2.0 realm, these two past years have been all about describing what bands should or could do to leverage their fan base, to promote themselves to the outside world, to better their networking tasks and skills etc. Discussions on the web lately are almost only referring to ways bands can use tools to augment their reach, and the Gigdoggy blog is no exception.

Ok, that does it. I have to write a post about this whole Tunecore / Universal partnership-thingy that has been going on since the release of the official news last Thursday. For those of you who aren’t aware of this historical event, here’s a quick summary.
Tunecore= low-fee digital distribution platform for bands, that places their music on sites like iTunes, eMusic, Amazone and others. Tunecore launched in 2006 and since then has become one of the most prominent and active digital distribution models out there.
Universal=largest behemoth record label on the planet. Is known to engulf record labels, and many other things.
